Tall Japanese Yellow Tokoname Dragon Vase Meiji

This stunning sesame-seed yellow tokoname vase is a unique creation. The motif encompasses 2 writhing dragons emerging in and out from the misty clouds, until they emerge to embrace the vase, forming the exquisite handles. Each dragon is meticulously hand-sculpted in exacting detail. Varying bands of impressed designs are found within the inner lip, as well as around the mouth rim, shoulder, stem, and foot rim, for a total of 5 concentric bands in all. There is a faint 4-character mark within a single-line square cartouche on the base, unfortunately indecipherable, and too weak to photograph. This vase was manufactured in the Meiji period (1868-1912). It should be noted that this vase is extremely rare, in both color and extreme attention to detail, as the more common ones are done in terra cotta red. In excellent condition, vase measures 13" (33 cm) tall x 10 5/8" (27 cm) wide handle to handle.
