A very detailed and vibrant watercolor landscape by John Henry Mole (1814-1886) watercolor “Edge of a Wood”. Mole was a landscape painter and water colorist. Best known as a painter of children in landscapes, it should really be the other way around, since his children are generally the weakest points of the composition. His backgrounds are extremely well painted, often with a preponderance of rich greens as in this painting. Mole’s works are on display at The Victoria and Albert Museum and many other museums around the world. Christie's sold the contents of his studio February 1, 1887. This painting appears to be unsigned, but was attributed to John Henry Mole by Jeremy North over 30 years ago. Sight size: 9” x 6” (22.9 cm x 15.2 cm). Frame: 15” x 12.5” (38.1 cm x 31.8 cm) Provenance: Jeremy North's Gallery, #449
