| An outstanding pair of hand carved late 19th c ivory Foo dogs. Standing on the traditional brocade ball, the male has two pups climbing on and over him, while his mate has three pups. Intricately carved ribbons wrap their way through the dogs’ mouths and around their bodies. The base is hand carved with dragons, clouds, stylized phoenix feathers, and a “Greek key” design. Originally there was a wooden base attached, but it had been removed, probably to expose the mark on the bottom. They could possibly be very early 20th c, but the style indicates a 19th c dating. Very detailed and in excellent condition, this prolific pair measures 6” tall and 2” high. | |||||||||
