19th C Chinese wedding chair with a carved and cut out back splat. Made of elm wood (jumu), this unusual chair dates to about 1880. The splat panel and carvings are painted with red and green lacquers, then high lighed with gold. The green areas have inlaid pieces of mother of pearl. This same technique is seen on the front of the chair. This wonderful chair has a drawer under the seat that opens on the left side.
