Chinese Rouleau Polychrome Vase, Early 19th C
SOLD

A massive and excessively rare Rouleau vase of polychrome colored enamels of the early 19th century. The porcelain is a blue/grey tinge of a slight undulating glaze with an orange base foot rim that is typical for the Jiaqing reign period (1796-1820). Please refer to Allen's later Chinese porcelain pg. 44&45 for illustration.

The enamels would reflect a very late 18th century mandarin palette with some thick and translucent enamels, but the with thick and dense mono-colored enamels in combination with some softer tones of blue interspersed, the early 19th century period of manufacture becomes apparent. Notice the dense pink, yellow, black, and white enamels, these would normally be associated with the late Qianlong reign, but with the aforementioned blue/grey color of the porcelain, this safely dates the vase well within the pre-1820 date. Note: In one of the photos we have provided an early 19th C mug beside this vase for enamel comparison.

The condition is excellent with a very small glaze skip to the lower side of the vase, the exposed biscuit has fired orange which serves as a mark of authentication of the suggested period, further there is no chips, hairlines, with little to no rubbing of the enamels. It measures 17.75" (45.1 cm)high x 7.5" (19.1 cm) diameter.

This is an extremely rare opportunity to own a very good example of a Chinese vase nearly 200 years old. More photos are available upon request.
