Large19th century rice or vegetable basket made by the mountain people from northern Luzon, the largest island in the Philippine archipelago. This coil basket is perfectly symmetrical has nice warm patina. The coil weaving technique, materials (finely split rattan and nito vine), and stylized design are consistent with baskets made by the Kalinga tribe. This rare and very collectible basket is in excellent condition and measures 28” (71.1 cm) high. In the last photo there is an even large basket with a bird design.
