The Royal Doulton Under the Greenwood Tree Series was in production from 1914 to 1967. There are 17 different scenes, this LENNOX FLOWER BOWL or Jardiniere showing both scene 1: Robin Hood, the friend of the poor, and scene 3: The Jovial Friar joins Robin Hood. Textiles are very important to the Kuba peoples of Zaire (Democratic Republic of the Congo), for virtually all members of adult society are involved in cloth production. The production of textiles provides an interesting social commentary, for Kuba men and women are responsible for different tasks in this process. Crown Devon bowl in the rare and lovely Fairy Castle pattern (2405). 8 3/4" in diameter and 3 1/2" high. The bowl does have a couple of minor flaws which do not greatly detract - a scratched area of about 2" on the outer section mostly on the blue, and some staining from use inside at the centre - mostly on the blue but some discolouration on the castle section. Still in LOVELY condition with no chips, cracks, repairs. The bowl is possibly not Mattajade, as it has a glossy glaze. ...click for details
The Royal Doulton HUNTING - JOHN PEEL Series was in production from 1924 - 1947. This one is date stamped for February 1926. There are 9 recorded scenes and this unusual bowl features scene 8: 'Huntsman galloping with hounds'. This Bone China bowl is 9" X 7" and 2" deep, and in MINT condition.
The Royal Doulton FOX HUNTING A Series was in production from 1931 - 1950. This one is date stamped for March 1940. There are 6 recorded scenes and this rackplate features scene 2: 'Dismounted huntsman under the hedge'. This rackplate (D5104) is 10 1/4" in diameter and in excellent condition, with a couple of glaze skips to the trim.
This Royal Doulton Dickens Ware Series (D5175) was in production from 1931 to 1950 and was designed by C.J.Noke. This FLOATING FLOWER BOWL features 3 characters: Mr Pickwick, Fagin and The Artful Dodger. This lovely piece is 11" in diameter and in excellent condition - it is not even crazed!
