Alfred Jackson (1842-1912) was in the jewellery trade in England and convicted of a crime in 1864. As a result he was transported to Perth, Western Australia where he arrived in 1866. He was paroled in 1875 and set up his own business in Fremantle (not far from where our shop is now). He moved to Geraldton in 1885 and 2 years later to Albany. His pieces seldom come on the market. The Royal Doulton SURFING Series (D4645) was in production from 1926 to 1942. This 5" square plate shows a group of bathers at the waterside, probably in Sydney, NSW.
