They are titled as follows: TOWN CARRIAGE FOR A NINTH EARL, DOG & DOGSTAR, PASTORAL INTERLUDE, CHIVALRY. Rowland Emett (1906-1990): British author/artist/engineer of "Gothic-Kinetic" sculptures which actually operated, as opposed to William Heath Robinson (UK) and Rube Goldberg (USA) who only drew such imaginative inventions. Quotes by Emett: 'It is a well known fact that all inventors get their first ideas on the back of an envelope. I take slight exception to this, I use the front so that I can include the stamp and then the design is already half done.' "The first principle in science is to invent something nice to look at and then decide what it can do." He designed eight machines for the movie “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” (based on the book by Ian Fleming), featuring a veteran car which can fly and think for itself. Please email for more pics. Ca 1958.
