Japanese Old Asa Fabric Rare Umbrella & Snapper motifs
We brought this back rare and absolutely delightful fabric from Kyushu, Japan, while the origin of the fabric was assumed to be Niigata are of Japan. Relatively larger motifs of umbrella, bamboo leave, red snapper, and sea shells (?) are all lined up horizontally and are repeatedly woven in this lovely kasuri ikat fabric. This asa linen itself is a handspan-made textile and beautifully dyed in indigo. It is simply very rare and treasure to see umbrella and snapper in kasuri fabric like this while some sections of the fabric have small conditional issues due to the age and heavy use as a summer kimono originally (Please the images). The fabric over all length is 8' long and its half length is about 9" wide and the rest is about 12" wide. Ca. Late 1800s (Meiji era).
