This gently smiling Hotei figure is one of 'shichifuku-jin' Seven Gods of Fortune of Japan. Hotei represents a god of fulfillment and happiness and also is regarded as a guardian of children. Hotei, meaning a cloth bag, often carries a large bag with a full of treasure. This figure instead carries an oogi fan that symbolizes a wish giving fan. Most of color pigments are gone yet the remaining paints still add the doll a rustic beauty . Ca. Early to mid 1900s. 4" wide 2.5" deep 6.5"tall
