We found this beautifully aged and used 'yakan' kettle in Matsue city, Shimane of Japan. Historically Matsue city, as well as Kyoto and Kanazawa of Japan, has flourished with tea ceremony/culture, passionately supported by the lord Matsudaira in the Edo period. This yakan kettle is particularly called "Hishigi" style, based on the dynamic and large round indentations on its copper surface. This style of kettle has especially been fondly used by 'Mushakoji-Senke" tea school (Mushakoji Senke was founded by a great grandchild of Sen no Rikyu). It possesses a well balanced profile and rustic beauty. Ca. mid 1900s. Please contact us for a shipping fee. Thank you.
