19th C French Angel Cherub Wall Bracket Corbels
A pair of hand hewn and carved angelic corbels from Europe. These were obviously made from an act of love, as one angel is a boy, identified by the thin face and swept back hair and surrounded by a crows feet pattern about the inner base of the wings. The other a girl with fat cheeks and mouth slightly opened as to suggest a giggle, with her hair close to the sides of her cheeks and extending to the shoulder area, she is surrounded by normal swept back feathers. Each of these angels have flat glass eyes that have been cut to size. Each corbel is hand carved from solid walnut; each has been coated with a thin layer of plaster that has been tinted and artificially made to look like they have a degree of verdigris; this is known as poor man's bronze. These angels reflect the French Empire style and date to the 19th century. These are very rare and there is not another pair like them anywhere to be found. They weigh 10 lbs each and measure 15.5 high x 12 wide.
