These Edan figures were used as a symbol of membership by the secret Ogboni society of the Yoruba, Nigeria. This particular pair can be found in the book by Hans Witte: 'Earth and the Ancestors, Ogboni Iconography', page 108, picture 1. H. 14,5 cm. Good wear and excellent patina. Ca. 19th/early 20th century.
