This very nice, rare Huari textile fragment features a motif of paired, opposing birds with additional ornamentation between. Much fringe remains on the fragment, which is overall quite stable and in good shape.
The Huari (or Wari) empire (500-800 AD) was one of many precursors to the more well-known Incas in what is today Peru. Through a series of military campaigns, the Huari became one of the most successful of these earlier civilizations with an empire that stretched along the entire coast of Andean Peru down to Lake Titicaca. AGE: Circa 600-700 AD CONDITION: Fragmentary, but nice. Framed and ready for display. DIMENSIONS: Fragment is 8.25" x 4" |
