This interesting amulet represents the Hedjet, the crown worn by the ruler of Upper Egypt. In the case of Egypt, "upper" means the south in reference to the higher altitudes of this region which allow the Nile to famously flow to the north. When Egypt was united in 3000 B.C. the crowns of upper and lower Egypt were combined into the Double Crown worn by the pharaoh, but the separate crowns remained potent symbols worn by regional inhabitants.
AGE: Late Period CONDITION: Excellent. Smooth, unbroken glaze and even green coloration. A nice piece for a more discriminating collection of amulets. DIMENSIONS: 3/4" in length |
