We all know Koie is a world-wide celebrated ceramic artist and since Robert returned from LA yesterday he saw it fitting to offer these two Koies, having seen that a major LA museum is moving into contemporary Japanese ceramic art; a great thing indeed! The tall forms each have a round 'ball' that is more of 'partner' to the tall form rather than a top. The clay is Shigaraki. The taller one is 44cm.tall with the ball at 8.4cm.tall; the other is 30.6cm.tall with the balla t 12.4cm.tall. Ancient Chinese termed yo as funerary objects in many forms.....
