Bluish-White Porcelain Jar by Yoshikawa Masamichi
This dimpled seihakuji-bluish-white porcelain jar was made by Tokoname-based ceramic artist Yoshikawa Masamichi(b.1946). Yoshikawa has had an amazing career thus far; his name is now well-known internationally as well as domestically. Just listing the number of awards he's won and public collections that acquired his work would take some time; to name but a few of his awards, the Grand Prize at the Asahi Modern Craft Exhibition, Gold Medal at the Munich International Art and Craft Exhibition, Grand Prize at the Deishi Porcelain Triennial, Gold Prize at the Vallavris International Ceramic Art Exhibition, and the Grand Prix at the First Taiwan Ceramics Biennial International Competition (2004) etc. For public collections, he has been acquired by the Victoria and Albert Museum, Kessner Craft Museum, Brooklyn Museum of Art, and many others, as well as important private collections. This is a smaller jar of his with his signature seihakuji glaze as well as a neat dimple-textured surface; the bottom quarter has a brown ash glaze that contrasts with the lighter colored upper portion, nice indeed. In perfect condition with a signed box, 23.5cm.tallx23, signed on base.
