FROM AMERICAN SCENERY NATHANIEL P. WILLIS, AUTHOR American Scenery was first published in 1840 in London by George Virtue. Bartlett, a prolific illustrator, journeyed worldwide to produce his travel books. He painted "on location" and then produced the steel engravings in American Scenery which have become so sought after. These steel engravings were originially produced in black and white- colored examples on the market have recent coloring.
