From the "Hortus Eystettensis" "Hyacinthus Orientalis"
Without doubt one of the greatest flower books ever produced. It was conceived as a horticultural record of the famous gardens of the Prince Bishop of Eichstatt. It was divided into four sections, one for each of the seasons, and was comprised almost entirely of ornamental plants. Basilius Besler (1561-1629), the author, was a Nuremberg apothecary and botanist.
EXTREMELY RARE (only 300 copies of the book were produced).
Please Note: Because the print is large, parts of the left and right margin are cut off approximately 1/4" on each side in the scan.
Imperial folio, 16" x 20 1/2" overall measurement, hand-colored copperplate engraving, left and right margins trimmed close although there is still margin outside the plate line, otherwise very good condition. Nuremberg, 1613. Custom cut, premium acid-free mat and custom mounting included.
