| SHIPPING ONLY AVAILABLE TO THE UNITED STATES ON THIS PRE-BAN IVORY ITEM. This old Japanese figural, polychrome scrimshaw ivory pin shows exceptional workmanship in its multi-tonal design and explicit carving. Dating from the 30's/40's, the creamy yellow ivory is carved into the shape of a man sitting cross legged dressed in a kimono decorated with green flowers. He appears to be holding a tablet of some sort and a writing instrument. The back of the pin shows evident cross hatching found in elephant ivory and the pin also tests as ivory. The pin has an early safety clasp marked silver. The ivory is in mint condition with no cracks, hairlines or chips. The polychrome is in remarkable condition and the piece is signed in Japanese by its maker. No export marks on this piece. It shows little to no significant wear. The pin measures 2 3/8" wide by 2 ½" tall. It weighs 15.1 grams. | ||||||||||
