Condition: No repairs. Two small chips on the upper outer rim and a small chip on the bottom rim.

an octagonal weight. The upper covering slat has a gentle groove to better accommodate the ivory measuring stick when the two slats are closed.
Period: 18th Century
Size: length = 28 cm (11 inches)
Condition: Has a nice patina and with all its original pieces (a complete set). The delicate ivory stick is also perfectly preserved with no breaks and has a nice patina.

A pair of mythical animals (mother and child) of a creamy jade color. It has small areas of natural brown, light orange and grey coloration and inclusions. The jade is beautifully carved and feels lovely to the touch. The curled tail of the smaller animal forms a round hole which enables a thin rope to be put through it. Absolutely endearing. Period: Early Ching (18th Century) Size: H = 1-3/4", W = 3-3/8"

A nice huanghuali brush pot encircled with carvings in high relief of lotus pads and lotuses. On one of the lotus pads rests a river crab.
Period: 18th/19th Century
Size: Height = 14 cm (5.5 inches), Diameter = 13.5 cm (5-5/16 inches)
Condition: Has an age crack at the rim. See last photo. The brushpot is 18th century but the carving is probably of a later date.

A rare crystal ring from the Pyu dynasty carved with a fish,the sea and a crescent moon. The fish is a early Buddhist symbol for incarnation carried over from Hinduism.
In Hinduism, one of their symbols is a fish. One appeared as an avatar (incarnation or physical bodily manifestation) of Vishnu to save mankind from the Great Flood.
The Fish (matsya) were originally symbolic of the rivers Ganges and Yamuna, but came to represent good fortune in general, for Hindus, Jain and Buddhists...
