An rare and endearing figure of a young boy disciple of Quanyin (the Goddess of Compassion) wearing a garment etched with a lotus flower - the symbol of Buddhism. He is often depicted near Quanyin with his hands in reverential prayer. The bronze is heavily cast and has wires imbedded underneath the pedestal, perhaps for attaching to a group of figures. A brass/bronze oval tobacco container. The top and two surfaces along the side have hammered lines of erotic art (all three scenes are different). The graceful lines are skillfully hand-tooled. The container is rather weighty for its size.
