A very large museum quality blue cobalt Martaban Jar. It is very, very rare to find this type of jar in cobalt blue, especially in this size and condition. Martaban jars were originally made in China used for storage of food for trading ships. They were eventually traded to the natives in Southeast Asia, mainly Borneo, and were highly prized. A brass/bronze oval tobacco container. The top and two surfaces along the side have hammered lines of erotic art (all three scenes are different). The graceful lines are skillfully hand-tooled. The container is rather weighty for its size.

Period: Ching (Mid 19th Century)

Size: Height = 5 cm (2 inches), Length = 5.8 cm (2-1/4 inches), Width = 3.5 cm (1-3/8 inches)

Condition: It has a dark patina. Can use some polishing but we like to keep it in its natural state.
