Nyonya wares are over-glaze polychrome enamelled porcelains made in Jingdezhen in the Kiangsi province of China for the Straits Chinese, or Babas, whose female counterparts are called Nyonyas, hence the term Nyonya ware. A nice scalloped Liao plate, boldly incised with blossoms and leaves, under a cream and bright leaf green and amber glaze. Comes with a certificate from the Chinese Government Auction House. Size: Diameter. 13.5cm. Condition: A broken piece at the rim that was glued back on probably at the site. It is almost invisible on the front of the plate. An unusual Tang pottery of a standing dwarf wearing a robe and hat painted in original orange pigments. He has a stocky figure and a sweet countenance on his downward tilt head. He is full of character. Figures such as these are considered a symbol of good luck and are not easy to find.
