Rare Pottery water dropper (scholar's object) in the form of a three-legged frog. The frog has a sansai glaze of a basic straw-colored glaze with drippings of yellow and green glazes. This water dropper was made with a hole in its back for placing the thumb to regulate the flow of water from its mouth. In Chinese mythology the three-legged frog usually lives on the moon and brings good fortune.

Period: Early Ming (15th Century)

Size: Length = 19 cm (7-1/2 inches), Height = 11 cm (4-1/4 inches)

Condition: Very good. Normal age wear. A minor ding on its left side - probably a kiln ding.
