| A small bronze figure of Avalokiteshvara standing on a plinth over a 4-legged base (2 front legs joined at bottom) He is holding a flask in the left hand. A solid halo surrounds the head with the top of the halo having a representation of Buddha. Although the piece is small, the casting shows the folds of the robe and etched lines further give a diaphanous feeling to the robe clinging to the body. Under magnification, malachite-green and ruby-red encrustation is present in some areas. Most likely it was gilded at one time. Period: Wei (386 - 549AD) Size: Height = 9.5 cm, Width at base = 2.5 cm. | |||||||||
