The porcelain is molded with scalloped contours. There is a scene with 18th century lovers hand painted on each one. The cream colored ground is accentuated with elaborate raised gilding. They are made of fine, white, hard paste porcelain that is pierced or reticulated. The rims have molded pearl beading. This porcelain pitcher was produced in Germany by Meissen in the 1890s. It has the crossed swords mark under glaze and is first quality. The pitcher measures 5 1/2 inches high at the handle and 6 inches across from spout to handle. The ground color is a deep, rich cobalt blue. There are two reserves that are framed with elaborate gilding. On the front is a charming scene of lovers in a garden landscape. The painting is superb and is the standard that the world of porcelain manufacturers aspire to. You can see the expressions on their faces and the details in their costume. The opposite side has a spray of realistic flowers in vibrant colors. The handle of the pitcher is in the shape of a branch with attached leaves. There is lacy gold trim inside the rim of the pitcher. Gilded decoration is found all around and there is rich gilding on the rim and foot. It is amazing to think how much effort and artistry went into the making of this pitcher. It is a lovely work of art. Condition: Excellent, first quality.
