This porcelain container was produced in Germany by a Dresden decorator in the late 19th century. We don't know the exact company because the name was carefully ground off. It may have been Thieme or Wolfsohn Dresden. The length of the egg is 9 inches and the height is 6 inches. The egg sits on a rococo style base. A wonderful bouquet of vibrant flowers is hand painted on the lid of the box. The style of painting is very reminiscent of Meissen. There are sprays of flowers painted on the lower portion of the egg as well. The rims of the box have lacy, hand painted gold trim. There is a minor restoration to the inner rim of the lid. During manufacture of this piece, a bubble in the glaze popped leaving a tiny nick on the rim of the bottom half. Neither of these minor flaws affect the appearance or use of the box. It is an unusual and highly decorative piece in good condition.

I have the most wonderful little porcelain garden of place card holders I have ever seen. All the flowers are spring-summer blooms of different varieties. They were made by Carl Thieme, Potschappel Dresden c. 1900. They measure approximately 2 1/4 inches long and 2 inches high, although they may vary slightly from flower to flower. They are all hand made in the fashion of Meissen. All are perfect. They were lovingly stored in a partitioned box with cotton for decades. It’s the perfect time to bring a spring garden to your table.
