Marvelous Antique Dresden Coffee Service
This 43 piece porcelain coffee service for 12 was produced in Germany by a Dresden decorator around 1900. All of the pieces have a printed shield mark with the word Meissen on it. This is an extensive service which includes: a coffee pot measuring 10 1/2 inches high and 8 inches from handle to spout; a sugar bowl with lid measuring 3 1/2 inches high and a diameter of 3 3/4 inches; a cream pitcher of 4 1/2 inches high; 12 cups of 2 1/2 inches high; 12 saucers with diameter of 5 1/4 inches; 12 dessert plates with diameters of 7 inches; 2 serving plates with diameters of 10 1/2 inches. The set is made of heavy, substantial porcelain. Each piece is hand painted with brightly colored, realistic flowers. The cups and saucers have gold trim on the rims. The serving plates and dessert plates have fancy hand gilding within the reticulated borders. The pot, sugar and cream pitcher have gold trim on the rims. The pot lid and sugar lid have applied roses and stems. At first glance you would think you were looking at a Meissen service as they are so similar. Condition: The only flaw is that there is a tiny chip on the rose finial of the sugar bowl lid. There are no other defects. The rest of the set is in excellent condition. This set was packed away or on display and never used. There are no signs of wear or use. The entire set weighs approximately 14 1/2 pounds before being packed.
