This porcelain basket was produced in France by Haviland & Co. Limoges in the late 19th century. There are double markings, green underglaze and a red overglaze stamp. This indicates that the porcelain and the decoration were both done in the factory. It measures 12 1/2 inches long, 6 1/2 inches high and 8 1/2 inches wide. The porcelain is molded in ornate, rococo style. The basket is decorated with a transfer design of large red cabbage roses and foliage. The roses spill into the interior of the basket and ring the outer rim. Rich, heavy gilding adorns the rim and handle. We have never seen such a large piece so well decorated in over 30 years. This is a rare and exquisite example of Haviland & Co. Limoges any collector would be proud to own.
