These 12 porcelain dessert plates were produced in France by Haviland & Co. Limoges between 1879 and 1889. They are marked with green under glaze mark and brown over glaze mark indicating that they were produced and decorated by Haviland. The plates measure 8 1/4 inches in diameter. The rims are squared off giving them an octagonal shape. The centers of the plates are decorated with transfer designs of sunrise skies framed by vines of flowers and foliage. The flowers are accented with hand enameling. The coloring of the clouds is different on each plate. The 1 1/4 inch border is black with uneven, brushed on gilding. Nature was the inspiration for these unique plates.
