This porcelain demitasse cup and saucer was produced in Hungary by Herend between 1855 and 1875. It has an impressed and hand painted mark. The saucer is 5 1/2 inches long, 4 3/4 inches wide, and 1 1/4 inches deep. The cup is 1 3/4 inches high. At first sight, you might think you were looking at a Meissen cup and saucer. The shape and painting are so similar. The four pointed shape is what is known as "quatrefoil." It has vividly hand painted flowers and tiny bugs scattered over the two pieces. There are flower buds and insects in the interior of the cup. The rims are trimmed with gold. This rare and beautiful demitasse cup and saucer is in excellent condition.
