10 Doulton Burslem Cobalt Dessert Plates
These 10 dessert plates were produced in England by Doulton Burslem in the late 19th century. They have a diameter of 9 inches. The fine, white bone china plates have scalloped rims. The central floral decoration was produced with the process known as "flow blue." The decoration applied under the glaze spreads, becoming lighter and darker in some areas. There are a few different patterns of flowers in the centers of these plates. The flowers are outlined with raised gold. They are inspired by the art nouveau movement of that period. The borders of the plates are cobalt blue decorated with an intricate gilded design. These are accented with raised enameling with a jewel-like effect. The rims of each plate are trimmed with gold. These 10 plates are quite unusual for Doulton Burslem. They were more inclined to use blush grounds and pastel colors. Condition: Excellent. These plates must have only been in a cabinet on display. They show no signs of wear.
