| East and West Coast Impressionist painter Colin Campbell Cooper 1856 - 1937, Woman by the Sea 1885, ink/graphite on paper, 4 1/8" by 11 5/8" sight, signed/dated lower right, housed under glass in vintage gilded and incised House of Heydenryk frame, no restorations. Artist studied Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts with Thomas Eakins, Academies Julian, Vitti, and Delecluse in Paris. Was Instructor in Watercolor at Drexel Institute 1895-1898. Moved to NYC where he met his wife Emma Lampert, then traveled the world for subject matter. First went to California in 1915, spending winters in Los Angeles. Settled 1921 in Santa Barbara where he served as Dean of Painting at the Community School of Arts. Elected Associate Member of the National Academy of Design in 1908, full status as Academician in 1912. Member NY Watercolor Club, Art Club of Philadelphia, Philadelphia Watercolor Society, American Watercolor Society, Fellowship of Pennsylvania Academy, Lotos Club, American Federation of the Arts, Salmagundi Club, Boston Art Club, California Art Club. | ||
