Telemaque Obin 'Fishing' Circa: Mid-1980's Oil on masonite Dimensions: 16 x 20 in. Signed lower left 'T. Obin Cap-Haitien' Framed Dimensions: 23 x 27 in. Telemaque, the son of Philome Obin, was born in Cap Haitien in 1913. Telemaque was a watchmaker for 35 years before he became a full-time painter in 1966. Trained by his father, Telemaque's style has been characterized as gentle and lyrical (a contrast to Philome). Telemaque is widely collected and is a well documented Haitian Master. 'Fishing' is wonderful landscape scene with fine details. Contains two main figures fishing by a brookside. A third figure wearing a red dress, is dwarfed by a seemingly giant palm tree. This unique perspective is characteristic to the Cap-Haitien School. 'Fishing' contains one yellow house (center right) and six beautifully detailed banana trees. A wonderful painting for any art collection. |
