Suwa Sozan(1851-1922)works.
A celadon incense burner with neat form and simple design and carved in silver made globe with phoenix design.
The scene in which a scent is emitted from the phoenix danced on a globe is imagined.
Suwa Sozan came from a military family.
He worked in porcelain, first in Tokyo in 1875; from 1879 to 1900 he worked in Ishikawa-ken, then moved to Kyoto, where he worked with Kinkozan until 1906, when he set up his own workshop in Gojozaka.

This fine Satsuma suiteki is manufactured by the "Seikozan".
The Seikozan studio painted some of the very best Satsuma pieces.
Although almost always of small scale, there are very few that are not of the highest standard and this tiny suiteki is no exception.
