Powdered tea caddy (Natsume)- It is a kind of a lacquered tea articles and, most generally is used.
The name of Natsume originates in the form resembling the fruit of the the plant of the Japanese buckthorn family.
It is supposed that it is from the Sen no Rikyu (1522-1591) era that a powdered tea caddy occupies a sure position as a lacquerware tea article.
Hira-natsume is a powdered tea caddy to which the whole form is flat.

This tea caddy is in excellent condition.

It is decorated in skillful gold makie with scenery of pine wood in Japan.
Interior has wonderful nashiji, gold makie work.
Signed and stamped of artist name "Kado" on the Tomobako.

This article is an article of the finest quality without an equal also in the handicraft of existing Wajima-nuri.
His teacher's name is called "Kumano Ippo".
Kado passed away about 18 years ago.
Most works which in signed "Kado" are collaboration with "Kumano Ippo" which is his teacher.
He is a famous artist of the Wajima-nuri for manufacturing only the work of the cultural-assets class.
This Hira-natsume is used for very thin Keyaki(Japanese zelkova tree) on the wood grain.
This Keyaki is such a soft tree that a form cannot be maintained for shape if Japanese lacquer is not applied, a craftsman without the technology cannot handle.
It takes 6 years until the goundwork are completed.

One sheet of Japanese writing paper which the Chinese character was written is contained in the kiri-box.
This Chinese character is a name of the design of the Shino bag, "Edo-Wakuda".

Edo Wakuda gold brocade is a textile which weave a design of wildlife or a petal to round or cucumber form.

It comes with the silk cloth bag for keep(Shino-bukuro)which is decorated in gold thread on a beautiful striped pattern and a wooden kiri-box(Tomobako).

The condition is in excellent, as like new.
Dating from Showa period.

Measurements about : 8.5cm(3.3")Diameter, 6cm(2.3")Tall.
