Japanese great Ukiyoe artist in Edo period.
This scroll title is "Oukabijin".(The beauty under a cherry tree.)
The mounting is made with the very beautiful and elegant old cloth of the time.
It is a handwoven old cloth with fine embroidery.
This piece is restored just recently.
It became more beautiful.
Signed an artist name and sealed on the left side in image.
There is an another sign of the title and artist name on the wooden kiri-box, Tomobako.
It is called "hakoshiki".
This is a sign of the autograph written by great Japanese artist "Shimomura Kanzan".
Shimomura Kanzan had owned and used this painting scroll regularly.
And the guarantee of the work called "Hako-shiki" was written to the reverse side of a lid of the wooden kiri-box.
We bought this painting scroll from his family.
There is very minor some marks on the image due to the great age.
Overall condition is excellent for considering great old age.
Dating from Edo period.
It comes with original wooden kiri-box, Tomobako.
This scroll is very rear item and wonderful article in Japan.
Measurements about : The total height of the scroll is 190cm(74.80"), and total width of the scroll is 28.8cm(11.33").
The interior dimensions of the image is 91.6cm(36.06")height and 11.9cm(4.68")width.
The gold part of the circumference of the image, the width of the gold border is 3.4cm(1.33"),and the up and down of the gold border is 12.6cm(4.96")upper part, 9.4cm(3.70")lower part.
The total dimensions of the patterned border(embroidery part), 133.4cm(52.51")height and 28.8cm(11.33").
The width of the patterned border is 5cm(1.96") ,and up and down of the pattrened border is 13.2cm(5.19")upper part, 6.8cm(2.67")lower part.
