A striking late Victorian 14K yellow gold cross pendant by Bippart, Griscom & Osborn. The firm was one of the leading Newark makers and was well regarded for the quality of its workmanship and gemstones. The body and arms of the this cross are set with round sapphires with a rich violet-blue hue. The sapphires show no indications of heat treatment. The center is set with an old European cut diamond, graded as J color, SI2 clarity. The terminals are bead-set with tiny seed pearls. The gold surfaces are finished in the matte Russian finish often used in Art Nouveau jewels. The original bail is marked “14K” and is stamped with Bippart’s hallmark.
