A handsome pair of Victorian 14K yellow gold cufflinks, the faces featuring oval cabochons of gold-in-quartz. This stone became popular for men’s jewelry at the time of the California gold rush. Prospectors originally kept pieces of quartz with tiny bits of gold inclusions and to have custom jewelry made, and the fashion spread. These stones are simply set in a softly-bloomed gold stepped border. The two stones have a light and dark striped pattern and are nicely matched. Tested and guaranteed 14K. Origin: America, ca. 1880. Condition: excellent, all original. Size: 3/4” x 5/8”. Weight: 10.9 grams. |
