A beautiful late Victorian 18K yellow gold and platinum ring set with a 1/2-carat oval ruby in gold surrounded by a border of rose cut diamonds in platinum. The head is flanked on either side by an additional rose cut diamond set into the shoulders of the yellow gold shank. The ruby is graded as slightly purplish-red color, medium-dark tone and moderately strong saturation (slpR 6/4). The stone has VVS clarity and shows no evidence of heating or other treatment. The ruby provides a jolt of strong color against the surround of diamonds that are unusually white for rose cuts. The carat weight of rose cut diamonds cannot be accurately determined by measurement, but they have the visual appearance of being about a half carat in total weight. Tested and guaranteed 18K gold and platinum.
