Outstanding and very rare French 18K gold bracelet comprised of nine coiled snakes, their heads bead-set with old mine cut diamonds. The snakes are separated by collet-set blue sapphire cabochons. Each snake has delicate engraving to highlight the details of the heads. Snakes, symbolizing eternal love, were a popular motif in Victorian jewelry. The diamonds have very nice color and clarity, especially for stones of this period. Likewise, the sapphires have nice saturated color and excellent clarity. The clasp is marked with French "tete d'aigle" hallmarks as well as "Depose" (indicating that the design was registered). The workmanship is very fine. Origin: Paris, circa 1850. Condition: excellent, the sapphires have some surface wear when viewed under a loupe. Size: 7" long. Weight: 27.0 grams. Approximate Total Gemstone Weight: diamonds, .72 carat; sapphires, 7.0 carats. |
