A stunning Victorian 18K gold chain link necklace, the gold links interspersed at regular intervals with lapidary-cut coral beads. The necklace suspends a coral pendant carved in the form of baroque shells and urn drops. The coral has the deep coloring associated with coral harvested from the Mediterranean just off the coast of Naples. The carving is very finely done. The clasp is marked with the French "tete d'aigle" hallmark for 18K gold. Origin: France, ca. 1860. Condition: excellent, all original. Size: 21" long; pendant drop, 2-1/8" long. Weight: 10.5 grams. |
