An important Imperial Russian lacquered cigarette box, the hinged lid decorated with a summer troika scene over a silver leaf background. The interior is finished in an unusual rust shade. The quality of workmanship is quite nice. The box is accompanied by a copy of a loan agreement between a private collector and the Hillwood Museum for inclusion in Hillwood's 1989 special exhibit of Imperial Russian lacquered objects. At that time, Hillwood appraised the case's value at $400. Origin: Russia, ca. 1890. Condition: excellent, a small bit of lacquer wear around the chest of the white horse. Size: 4-1/4" x 3-1/4" x 1-1/8". |
