A very fine Vishniakov lacquer dresser box, the domed top decorated with a peasant couple standing by a well in a pastoral setting. The scene is beautifully decorated, with fine attention to detail. Metallic paints highlight the figures’ clothing. The interior of the box is coated with a dark, rusty red color. The inside of the lid is stamped with Vishniakov’s mark, indicating appointment to the household of Czar Alexander II. Origin: Russia, ca. 1870. Condition: very good, the lid has a bit of surface wear on the right side (does not detract unduly from the surface decoration). Size: 2-1/2” diameter; 1-3/4” high. |
