A set of three Imperial Russian silver coffee spoons, the bowls decorated with champleve enamel strapwork in a starburst pattern, centering engraved initials "CF". Exposed areas of silver are finished in a stippled pattern. The use of the champleve technique is much less common than cloissone enamels. The handles are worked in the classic twist pattern. The interior of the bowls retain traces of matte gilding. The spoons are marked with the 91 standard. Only a few of the most exclusive silversmiths used this purer standard. They are also marked with the Moscow city mark, the date 1889, and an unidentified maker's mark ("AM"). Origin: Russia, 1889. Condition: excellent, except for a 3/16" area of missing enamel on the green border of one spoon. Size: 4-3/32" long. Weight: 34.0 grams. |
