A nice Imperial Russian enameled silver spoon, the back of the bowl enhanced with cloissone enamels in four opaque shades, translucent amethyst, and foil-backed translucent red. One of the opaque colors is a particularly nice shade of lavender. The wire work between the enameled cells is nicely done. Exposed areas of silver are gilt. The interior of the bowl is engraved "Karlsbad", indicating that the spoon was intended for sale as a souvenir spoon from the luxurious spa town of Karlovy Vary ("Karlsbad") in Bohemia, a favorite haunt of Europe's royalty. The Russian hallmarks are overstruck with Imperial Austro-Hungarian import marks . Origin: Russia, ca. 1900. Condition: excellent, no enamel damage. Size: 4-19/32" long. Weight: 14.25 grams. |
