A very fine pair of 18K yellow gold cufflinks by Van Cleef & Arpels. Each cufflink has two faceted baton faces, each collet-set with a band of rectangular cut sapphires. The stones have superbly saturated color and excellent clarity. The faces are joined with solid connectors in white gold that conceal a unique telescoping action. This movement allows the cufflinks to be worn with cuffs of varying thicknesses and makes them easier to put on, as well. Each is fully hallmarked with French “tete d’aigle” for 18K gold and also with Van Cleef & Arpels ‘maker’s mark. Both have the serial number “17664Z”. One cufflink is further marked “Van Cleef & Arpels S.G.D.G. Brevete Déposé 48893”, thus indicating the patent number for the closing mechanism. Origin: France, ca. 1940. Condition: excellent, all original. Size: 11/16” x 5/16”. Weight: 13.5 grams. Approximate Total Gemstone Weight: 4.64 carats. |
