Japanese ivory miniature shodana

Japanese ivory high-detailed shodana. This piece is an extremely great example of Meiji works of art. It was either made as a gift to the Imperial Palace, or was made to be in one of the world exhibitions. All the different techniques of carving ivory is apparent in the shodana including high and low relief pierced carving. The whole piece is finished with mixed-metalwork fittings with Mother-of-pearl inlays. Signed Shuno Shue, 19th century. Height 20.5"
